Stephen A. Roach is the founding member and the Manager of Roach, Ioannidis & Megaloudis, LLC and concentrates his practice in Civil Litigation. For more than 30 years, he has  represented national insurance companies in federal and state courts in Massachusetts and New England on life, health and disability matters. He advises companies on insurance and employment issues, and represents them and their agents before the Massachusetts Division of Insurance. He also has broad experience in general Civil Litigation.

CIVIL LITIGATION PRACTICE

Mr. Roach has extensive experience representing civil rights plaintiffs and has secured many settlements and favorable verdicts and decisions in Massachusetts federal and state courts. He obtained a jury verdict and resolution against three Boston police officers for police brutality resulting in a $1.2M recovery. The case gained national media attention and was the subject of numerous publications and a book. In an Americans With Disabilities Act case, Mr. Roach obtained a federal court appeals decision resulting in a recovery exceeding $500,000. The federal Court noted “Attorney Roach skillfully prosecuted the . . . appeal . . . brought before this court.” A National Law Journal article cited the case as one of the most successful in the nation that year.He regularly represents companies and individuals in business, sales, property, education, partnership, employment and other disputes. He also has an active personal injury practice in many areas. Mr. Roach has successfully represented employees and employers as follows:

  • A jury verdict of over $200,000 for unpaid sales commissions.
  • Defense of non-competition claim against sales employees.
  • Substantial settlements for sex molestation of minors, sex discrimination, sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, gender preference violations, disability and handicap discrimination, and a wide variety of other civil rights cases.
  • Negotiating employment agreements for both employees and employers.
  • Defending employers against wage or discrimination claims and bringing such claims on behalf of employees.
  • Landlord and tenant cases representing both landlords and tenants.

EDUCATION, HONORS, AND MEMBERSHIPS

During his career, Mr. Roach has enjoyed a number of educational opportunities, honors, and memberships, including the following:

  • A 22 year member and former Chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Insurance Committee. While the Chair, Mr. Roach led the establishment of the MBA Insurance Agency, Inc. for legal malpractice insurance for MBA members.
  • Memberships include the Defense Research Institute and the National Police Accountability Project.
  • Mr. Roach is a regular contributor to a national on-line news service for insurance related matters.
  • Mr. Roach is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College in political science and a cum laude graduate of Suffolk University Law School where he was awarded the Seymour Schneider Prize for a published article.
  • A former editor of the Suffolk University Law School Law Review.
  • A former Instructor at Suffolk University Law School.
